65 Underdash Insulation Picture or Question

Does anyone have pics of dash removed on midyear (65 with air to be specific) showing the insulation. I bought both packages of insulation but the felt package doesn`t make a whole lot of since to me and I think a picture would help. Mine was stripped out before I bought it. Thanks!!

Michael -- by "the felt package" do you mean the parts that are directly glued to the [upper] firewall; [ref. AIM UPC 1, sheet E7, items #1 & 3]; ie, not the "pads w/the black pressed paper board and attached with black ruber plugs", to borrow from the phrasing of the '65 TIM&JG ?

If so, can take pics of my late '65 convertible, which has the instr panel removed, which should answer LH and center (I'd have to remove glove box, though, to get shots of the RH side).

Now my early '65 air coupe (body D6, S-280, probably first day after end of Oct/Nov '64 strike) has NO sign of ever having had the upper insulators -- ie. no glue; clean as a whistle. I don't think there was to be any difference between C60 or not. Neither car car has ever had its dash out.

Let me know if pics of what I described would help.

      Wayne,

I could use a copy of those pictures as well! If you don't mind.

      Thanks,

      Jim

Michael, Jim -- Getting good pics was much harder than I thought. Bear in mind that you're looking at 43-year old unrestored areas of the underdash. Generally, the upper LH insul. piece has to be molded around several complex firewall shapes, especially in the area of the brake and clutch pedal support bracket assy, and below the LH windshield wiper shaft. Not sure, but they might have even cut/ripped at one or two places to divide the job into smaller steps.

First pic is of my air car -- absolutely no insulation ever installed . If someone could explain this to me, I'm all ears .

Pic 2 is of LH late 396 car, S-body; notice that the insulator is sagging around the wiper shaft -- the glue looks like it was applied too high for the pad to stick to.

Pic 3 is an overall view; there's a missing 7" by 4" piece above the LH kick pad vent grille that came off; glue was applied too high, so this piece was hanging loose. I'll glue it back on when I find the correct NCRS glue .

Pic 4 is a close-up of the firewall grommet area where B.U. switch, wiper and ign (run) wiring passes... Note 396-only steel tubing to oil pressure gauge. [ignore lack of shiny tape on harness]. The AIM indicates that the LH insulator begins just to the left of the wiper motor mainshaft (shown upper right of pic). But in this car, it continues as one piece to a point further left of the AIM drawing.

Hope this helps; will take more pics if required.

Thanks Wayne! I purchased both the glue on and the one with the rubber stoppers. This also helps me with some of the grommets and wiring. Mike
