    Re: Dr Rebuild

    I simply wanted to know the markings on a 69 BU lens;
NOS lens in the GM box 2 reqd 2660301.

On replacements they also have a part # in the clear area which I did not want to purchase.

Simple Rule: Treat people the way you want to be treated. Period

Let's put it this way, I did "body off" restoration on three C1's, bought many parts from many vendors but never bought a single part from this guy because of his rude reputation...

He is extremely up-front that he is not interested in issues related to, as far as, will his part be deemed perfectly accurate reproductions by NCRS judges. He has a very clear reason for this position, which he has shared with me, but I will not speak on this particular issue, as I feel Geoff should be the one to discuss that issue with any member who inquires about it, and, is serious about buying parts from him.
My experience with Geoff Coenen was that, I found him to be an extremely intelligent person, with an encyclopedic knowledge base about Corvettes, but admittedly has some issues revolving around judging conflicts, and the speed the club moves to resolve those conflicts. As far as his wife Debbie, who also works in the business, she is one of the nicest, most helpful, and courteous people I have ever met.
I hate that fellow member Erv had a bad experience, and I salute him for properly bringing it to the attention of fellow members who do in fact, buy quite a few replacement parts thru various vendors. I do however feel it is inappropriate to "pile on", or simply state a misinterpretation in your post, of what is clearly pointed out in his business publications or website.
I personally have no problem doing more business with Geoff, with my full understanding of his policies, that he has so clearly stated. I would much rather pay him, and receive a valuable part, than pay another hundreds of dollars, for an opinion. Thank you for bearing with me. Ridge.

            Re: Dr Rebuild

I have purchased many parts for my 68 restoration from Dr. Rebuild and often drove from Massachusetts to his warehouse in Connecticut because I was to impatient to wait to get my parts.
Always had good experience, and the parts were perfect. When I did have items shipped I always received them within 2 at the most three days.
If you follow his directions, you have no problems.
He runs things his way becasue it is his business and that is how he keeps the costs down.
He also has his merchandise in stock instead of just pretty pictures in a catalog. Never encountered a back order.
And, his catalogs are extremely helpful when you have everything apart and are trying to figure out how to put it back together again.
He also has the parts that no one else has, and as mentioned earlier, they are in stock and available, not on back order.
His wife Debbie, knows damn near as much about Corvettes as the Dr. does and has helped me on numerous occasions get the correct part when I didn't have a clue.
I am not related, just a very satisfied customer.

              Ken,

My thought is, define the term "correct."

Is it the one that fits your car, works as the original was designed to do, looks essentially like the original pump and will not cause problems with installation or operation? Yes? then that's one definition of "correct." Since the number of fuel pumps that will actually function on our old cars is disappearing rapidly I would say that if the pump fit the above criteria in 2008 that's about as "correct" as you are going to get.

If you want all of the above plus the AC logo, then you can either a) call Paragon and see if they still have one in stock. I think they were $149 last I checked. Or, wait on ebay for an NOS one.
The supply of pumps for your car that still carry the AC logo is very small.

I too have purchased a fair amount of items from the Doc. Always have dealt with Debbie who has been SUPER. Never had a problem and I think he has one of the best catalogs because of the illustrations. He carries parts others cannot or do not have for my '55

I have followed this thread with much interest. I too have bought a number of items from him and can honestly say I've never been disappointed. If I had one complaint it would be with their accessibility, i.e. I sometimes stay up late at night to conclude what I want and would like to jump on line and get them ordered while I'm at it - specially when the wife isn't peering over my shoulder or listening to my phone in order; "you ordering some more parts for that car!?"

Well, on line is a BIG disappointment - I click on this and I click on that, but I get no where.

                      Re: Dr Rebuild

I've also purchased from Dr. Rebuild. The only issue I've had is that a part was listed in the catalogue for a particular application and it was wrong. To be fair I've also had this happen with Vette Products of Michigan. At Carlisle I bought an air cleaner base that was listed for a particular application, and it was incorrect also.

Stu, I thought I was the only guy here who has to look around carefully, and see if the wife is watching before I put in my order.
If I had a dollar for every time I've heard "do you realize how much you've put into that Corvette?", I could buy Doc Rebuild out, and solve this issue. Ridge.

                          Mr Ervyn Myers

Frankly it matters not what phone line you called, the answer would have been the same if it were asked on two tin cans with a string between them. I simply advised you to seek original parts, as I advise all who are compelled to stringently follow the NCRS "correctness" guidelines. Why is it such an egregious suggestion to go buy an original part if you are so enamored with originality and correctness?

We offer no third party endorsement, never did; were the first vendor to clearly state so that over a decade ago and do not hide this fact from anyone. If others state that our particular part is correct, I do not offer that endorsement to make any further sale. I have come to loathe the term correct and correctness just as I have come to loathe those who act out and curse about a tail lamp lens while swaggering around the internet to forewarn of their terror incident.

December 1979 when we first made repro parts, we made them much better than GM ever did. I was first to reproduce 1963 only muffler hangers. We Cadmium plated the steel parts to prevent corrosion; GM did not. We used a Beryllium Copper alloy ground plate that almost completely resisted fatigue cracking, instead of the brittle, almost universally broken Copper ground plates on GM and the other later repro 63 muffler hangers. When we made 1961-1962 exhaust hangers, we used a mil-spec plater and painter (Reliable Plating & Polishing, Bishop Ave, Bpt, CT) to coat them with the same baked on paint finish they used on the Sikorsky military helicopter parts they also finished. They also did our plating and for Sturm Ruger and other quality manufacturers as well. We made stainless french lock and other parts that are not like original. These were more durable, long lasting and particularly more expensive to make.

They were not NCRS correct and frankly that parameter was not our benchmark. Other parts we have made in original tools, with original sources and even then they have not always been correct. If you seek NCRS approved parts, always buy an original part.

                            Mr Kenneth Barry,

I looked in our computerized databases (1992-1999 and 2000-2008), and I could simply not locate your name as Ken or Kenneth Barry. I think you may be mistaken and I would appreciate your actually providing some evidence of any sale for a 1970 fuel pump. Actually I cannot locate any sales to anyone with your name for any parts.

By any chance will you be at the winter meet this year here in Orlando?

Reason I ask is I believe we missed you and your lovely wife the last couple of years. This event is one of the only ones us old retirees get a free "Kitchen Pass" while the Wive's are off sunning themselves.

I've heard the stories of the Doc from various folks over the years or decades. lol. A few years ago, I asked for his help in identifying tilt/tele parts for my '70 and was prepared for the worst. He sat down with me at Carlisle for 20 to 30 minutes and patiently helped me with my high maintenance order. I get the feeling that he hates to answer the telephone. Doc would not be the first person I've seen that's contrary on the telephone and pleasant in person.
