On acceleration with a passenger in the car I can hear the driveshaft U - joint hit the body. I'm guessing that the support behind the seats is broken or loose. What am I going to find when I peel back the carpet? And what can I do to repair it?

Re: 1967 - Support behind seats
doubt the body mounts behind the seats have failed. more than likely the rubber cushions on the snout of the differential need replaced before the noise is eliminated.other possibility is rust at the frame kick-ups allowing the differential and the rear 1/3 of frame itself to rotate upwards towards underside of floorpan. once you've discovered and fixed the loose rear suspension, then investigate the floorpan for damage and repair it as you would any damaged fiberglass panels. good luck, mike- Top

Re: 1967 - Support behind seats
It's definitely not the suspension. Because it only happens when I have a passenger, I feel that the body is sagging because of the vertical panel behind the seats. Do I just support the body from underneath and reinforce that panel with a couple layers of mat or roven woven?- Top

Re: 1967 - Support behind seats
The steel "luggage stop" panel behind the seats is riveted to the underbody all the way across the car and stiffens it; when those rivets loosen up, the underbody sags. If you don't find the diff nose bracket cushions deteriorated, those rivets are probably the issue, and the top of the tunnel may also be cracked.- Top
