C1 Tack & speedo cable trivia

We look for the AC logo on each end to determine if the cables are original or the repro's have it. But the cable is another thing , as seen here you notice the cables have dark and light areas. Look at the repro's none.
This is how you know your looking at a real original cable and not a repro. Your comments as always are welcome.
    Look at your's.

I'm unsure about which "C1" but the tach drive cable on a high horse 1960 FI car says "AC SPEEDOMETER" on the small end connecting with the tach and "AC SPARK PLUG DIV" on the larger end that hooks to the tach.

I have an early '57. Exactly what does the lettering look like on the cable ends for tach and speedo? Stamped? Pictures?

      Thanks!

Both of the original cables (speedometer and tachometer) on my early 58' high horse fuelie say AC Spark Plug Div. on one end and AC Speedometer on the other although both cables are different in length and girth

Does anyone reproduce a 100% correct ('57) tach cable? Or any other year??

corvette repairs 049.jpgMine has the correct markings Roy. Now that you have made me pull a muscle in my back getting under the dash. Under the hood my cable is wrapped up in a black plastic coating. There is only about an inch of cable showing it's at the generator end that the cable is exposed about an inch. I have a 1960 NOV 59 build is this correct.

When you get pass 58 I'm lost about most parts , I'm not positive but I don't think any C1 tack cable coming off the "Generator or Speedo" cable was black plastic wrapped, only the tack cable from the Dist (later design ) ???! I know you can remove the plastic so to look original.
But don't take my word on any of this. Ask others here about that.

                        Roy,

The JM for 1961 indicates the "generator tach-drive cable is covered in black vinyl passing though rubber grommet..."

Does this mean the entire cable in in black vinyl or only when it passes through the firewall?

                        Regards,

                        Dennis

I have the cables that came off of my late '58 and the tach has AC Spark Plug Div on one end and AC Speedometer on the other. The speedometer cable has AC Speedometer on both ends. Is that a later revision?

Also is there a good method to remove the surface rust from the metal sheath on the tach cable and restore/preserve it?
