    Wheel balance weights - raallyes

    Guys,
Sorry if this has been covered before. I'm posting while my mechanic is working on my wheels today and hoping for a quick response. My mechanic is an old timer and can't get my rally wheels balanced to his satisfaction without using weights on the outside. I was recently dinged for this in judging. He says they will not be properly spin-balanced with weights only on the inside. The wheels are original 1970.

How have you all been successful getting this done? Or have you sacrificed a quality balance job for this criteria?

    Thanks,
    Greg

Stick-on weights under the trim ring. Easy - peasy, and invisible during judging.

Using a dynamic (i.e. "spin") balance, weights usually need to be added to both sides of the wheel. However, I believe the factory installed wheel/tire assemblies were only static balanced and weights were used only on the inside bead. If the wheels are in good shape and the tires are high quality, you may need only a static balance now.

Thanks, guys. I asked him to go ahead and use adhesive weights under the trim rings.
