    Heater core replacement

I need to replace the heater core on my 66 convertible. I searched the archives and found a thread about a tech article in the Corvette Restorer 2-3? years ago. Does anyone have this article or could you tell me what is involved in the heater core replacement.
    Thank you.

    Hi David !!

Corvette magazine did a great article with step by step photos in the January 2003 issue. Tech editor, Richard Prince wrote it. 6 pages, full color. If you can't get one, or don't have it, drop me an email. I'll send you my copy. Just send it back when you are done !

Here's what the issue looks like.

Most instructions will tell you you need a helper to hold the inner housing in place while you apply the nuts on the fire wall side, as you are trying to compress the new gasket. Not so. I did it by myself using a roll of duct tape as a wedge between the housing and the cross brace under the dash (the one w/ serial plate and trim tag). Worked like a champ. I too followed the article and it worked well. The big problem is always getting the battery, surge tank, and glove box out of the way.

Dave, use great caution around the inlet and outlet tubes. I don't believe they were reinforced for the 66. 67 was. Bill.
