    classic car index

There are a lot of investment indexes out there for various investments in commodities, equities, sectors, etc.

Does anyone know of a "collector car index"? I would be interested in seeing some graphs and data of collector car value over time. It would be neat if there was such an index.

I don't know of one. I have kept all my old "Old Car Price Guides" for this very purpose when I find something I like. Any particular car you're interested in?

Thought you were interested in some other brand. Many Vette mags and books publish pricing info. I will do you a 10 year on a #2 condition 1969 Corvette convertible. I'll be back later with the info.

Here is history according to ONLY "Old Cars Price Guide". This is for a plain 69 convertible in #2 condition.
            1998: 21,000
            1999: 21,000
            2000: 24,500
            2001: 27,300
            2002: 28,000
            2003: 28,000
            2004: 23,100
            2005: 23,800
            2006: 23,800
            2007: 26,600
            2008: 33,600
These are from the month of October for each year. I would say in the current market, we should be back to the 2007 price,at best.

Very interesting - I would suggest that we're probably back at 2005/2006.

I have been watching *bay auctions and the prices have retreated. Most of the cars do not meet their reserves. Cash is King once more. Now of course the highly sought after cars seem to hold their values as the owners do not usually experience distressed sales. Just my $.02
