    1967 items needed to be correct

    Just had a 67 427 coupe judged in Texas and need a few things to be correct. Would like to know where to get them if anyone knows.

    Anti-squeek under tank was said to be to thin, need it thicker
    Correct front shock upper washers
    drivers side rear 4-wire plastic support, said mine was from a chevelle

    Thanks

    Dr. Rebuild has the most correct fuel tank anti-squeak pads I know of. However, I don't know if they're exactly the same thickness as the originals, or not. Theirs are virtually identical to the ones that were originally installed on my 1969 and those may or may not have been the same thickness as those used for 1967. If you happen to have Dr. Rebuild's product and they were judged as too thin, then I don't know what to tell you. Beware, though, if you do find thicker ones, you might find a judge someday that says they're too thick and you need the thin ones.

    For the shock washers, it's simple: GM #3790342. Still available and same as original.

    For the plug wire retainers, the original retainer, GM #2977555, was discontinued in July, 1979 and replaced by GM #372540. That part was discontinued in February, 1985 and replaced by GM #14066248 which remains available. No doubt, the latest part is configured differently than the original. So, I suppose you'll need to look for a correct reproduction, assuming an exactly correct one exists.

      This is a photo of the original fuel tank antisqueak material from my 1967 coupe.

      It is about .100 inches thick felt with small perforations thruout.
      It is 2" wide on the front strip and 1.5" wide on the rear strips.

      The rear is actually 3 strip pieces while the front is one continuous strip.

        Hello;

        Hey Steve;

        The '67s restored here all had full length insulating strips.

        November, May, May, and June production.

        Hope this helps.

          Ray,

          Check your 67 AIM on UPC 8 B2.
          2 Part numbers (item 2 and item 3) are listed for the 3 pieces across the rear of the frame. Its in 3 pieces because the frame has a bow in the areas where the tank strap comes over the tank and attaches to the frame. These pieces were glued to the frame with #57 adhesive If this were a one piece felt in this area it would interfere with the strap attachment.

          The front single strip piece is a 3rd part number also glued with #57 to the tank support.

            As I recall, 30# roofing paper/felt (not the standard 15# stuff) is a pretty close match to the original material.

              Hello Steve;

              The assembly manual states items and procedures not always done on assembly.

              Just stating my 40+ years of experience.

              On some original Corvette, if you look up at the area where the gas tank straps are hooked through the rear frame crossmember there is insulator material in this area not touching the frame, glued to the gas tank.

              Only wrote about the '67s in direct response to the original question. Have worked on 75-80 other midyears.

              The goal in my opinion is to restore the Corvette as originally assembled, which is not always by the AIM

              Hope this helps.

                I've always used the 30# paper as John H. mentioned. It is as close to the correct pad as you will get. The downfall is you have to purchase a roll of this unless you know a roofer.
