    63" dual, master brake cylinder

Was this master brake cylinder ( I think it's a J56) used anywhere else, besides Corvettes? If so where might it have been used? Are any available, used or NOS?
    Thanks.

Dick, For many years I heard that the Z06 master cylinder was the same as a tax cab and recently found out that it is not. Maybe a non Z06 is though. But I am sure we will find out. JD

The 63-65 J-56 master cylinder, GM #3828760, was also used for some 1963-64 Chevrolet full size passenger cars and taxis with dual master cylinder. Just what triggered a dual master cylinder installation for these cars I do not know. It may have been part of a taxi and police package. However, not all taxis or police cars would necessarily have the taxi or police package. Also, cars equipped with the Z04 HD suspension and chassis and /or police package may have been what triggered the dual master cylinder. Very few of these cars were made. J-56 was NOT available for passenger cars during the 63-69 period. The GM #3828760 master cylinder was a Kelsey-Hayes manufactured master cylinder.

It's also possible that the same or similar master cylinder was used on some Mustangs of the day. I believe that the Shelby GT-350 used a Kelsey-Hayes dual master cylinder and some other Mustangs may also have used it.

The GM #3828760 master cylinder was discontinued from SERVICE in October, 1967 and replaced by GM #5467154. The latter was a Delco-Moraine-manufactured master cylinder. It SERVICED only the same applications as the 3828760. I'm sure it was of a completely different configuration, but I've never seen one and I don't even know what casting it used. It may have been a unique casting or it may have been the same casting used for other master cylinder applications.

The GM #5467154 was discontinued from SERVICE without supercession in May, 1974.

Are there any NOS original GM #3828760's still around? I doubt it but if there was, I'm sure it would take a king's ransom to buy it. What about used examples? That might be a possibility, mainly as sourced from 63-64 passenger cars with the dual master cylinder installation. As I say, not too many of these ever made from what I can tell but, somewhere out there in some field of rusting hulks, there may still be a few.
