    72 Small Block Exhaust System

Are There Any Currently Any Correct Repro Exhaust Systems Made To Meet Judging Standards.

    Edward----

From what I hear and see, the recently available Gardner-manufactured exhaust is the closest to factory-original. However, I don't think they make the 2" system for 69-72 models as of yet. I think they do have the 70-72 2-1/2" system, though.

Also, based upon my opinion of the Gardner product, I do not think it's 100% correct. I do think it's the most correct system currently available, though. Keep in mind that even an NOS GM SERVICE exhaust system is not configured entirely like PRODUCTION.

My 70 has 2" exhaust pipes that judges have told me are original, or perhaps NOS (wrinkles, flat bottom, etc.). If someone knows any Gardner people who'd like to examine them to try to reproduce them, I'd be glad to help. But I'd rather not have to give them up in the process.

If you surf down this thread you'll see what mine look like. The site won't let me re-post the same pictures . Anyway, you can see that near the back wheels the bottoms are subtlely flattened.

I can absolutely guarantee you that the 69-72 small block, 2" system, rear pipes were "flattened".

The concensus of some top judges at Waco was that the Gardner system appears as the original with the exception of the W on the muffler.

                  Hey Guys,

I saw the topic and thought I would send some pictures of the LT-1 Exhaust we did for Automotive Performance. This car got a top flight award at Waco 2007 and Duntov at St Louis 2008 98.9 %

We are currently seeking a few more original systems to help with our reproduction authenticity. Please contact us if you would like to take advantage of this offer.

                  Best Regards,

Looks good, might need to be flattened just a little more. Seems like the NOS ones that I have are flattened just a tad bite more than in the photos. But I would say that is a good looking exhaust, now if we could just get the W in the mufflers,

I've heard about your SB system but your pictures are the first opportunity I've had to SEE one. Thanks for posting them!

Edward - I spoke with Eric today. Super nice guy, and seems to be a real enthusiast as well as a great businessman.
I offered him my 2" pipes, which I'm told are original or NOS, to make repos. His two concerns seemed to be: 1) Is there enough of a market to justify the cost of making 2" dies; and 2) my rear pipes were apparently cut to fit replacement mufflers extensions, so they don't extend all the way back to mufflers like originals would.
He told me he'd get back to me. I told him I'd love to help all those who'll want correct 2" pipes, which would include me since my carbon steel pipes won't last forever. I'm hoping Gardner will decide to go forward for all us 2" guys ... exhaust pipes width, that is.
