    Carter Carburator,mdl 3461BA3

    can anyone tell me what the BA3 in the mdl. # means. I know the A3 is January 1963; but what is the B for. I am putting this carb on a Feb '63 second week car , is this correct?
    Thanks Jon Rogers 44052

    Here's a case where the '61-62 JG book supplies more information than the newly updated '63-64 JG...

    "Carter AFB carburetors most have model number plus date information at the lower right front mounting boss. Date information on the mounting boss inclues general two letters and one digit: First letter is a modification, change code. ('A', 'B', or 'C'); second letter and third number indicates month and year of carburetor manufacture."

      Jack;

      What you quote from the 61-62 JG is quite valid for the early AFB's covered to that date. However, have you ever seen information that there was indeed either an "A" or "B" modification to a 63 model 3461S (or 3460S)?

      All my data shows there was with the 3721S (A and B) and 3420S (A and B) which superseded the 3461S late in 63 for some L-75 and L-76 applications, then continued on in 64 thru 67 on L-75's only or as service replacements for 63's.

      Jon has a dilema here and I hope we can get our collective heads together to help him out.

        Nothing I could find in my Carter references or the '63 Tech bulletins that refers to a change to the 3461 carb.

          Stu,

          The proof your looking for is in the first post only it's not listed as 3461SA-B. It is below next to the date 3461S BA3, B= second revision, A= January and 3= Year. Later with the 3721 it is like your carbs.

            Tim;

            Do you have any data that indicates there were any revision models on the 3460S/3461S series? That's the question. I have never seen any myself. Again, I know there was on the 3720S and 3721S models as I have one of each (3720SA and a 3721SB).

            FWIW, the date code on each of my carbs is stamped below the Model number in smaller characters, not on the same line.

              Stu, I do not have any supporting data on revisions for 3460-1 but I remember reading the revisions on 1962 AFB carbs and the first post clearly shows that carried through to 3461. My memory tells me one of the revisions was metering rods and choke setting but this may be for the 62 AFB.

              I have the NCRS restorer CD and I will go back and re-read the info and see if that's where I found it.
