    Band clamps

Some time ago thre was a thread about the colors of spring or band clamps. Since I now know how to post pictures on this board, I thought it might be helpful to see a variety of sizes and colors for each size. Note that some colors are in more than 1 size. Also, the front row are older non "safety" clamps (square edged tangs). All have the same stamped in mark as was diplayed in the original forum. Jeff

    Re: Band clamps

    Hey Jeff,

Great post! Can we take it to the next step and identify the
clamps and their original purpose? Some on my car are dirty and I am not quite clear on what color they are and I am afraid to brush them off. I have not had my car judged yet. Also, some have been changed and so, what belongs where? I too have some old ones with the U in the diamond is that the stamping you refer to? thanks,

    Ken

      Hi Jeff,
That really is a good picture. I didn't realize there was that wide a variety.
Your comment about 'safety-type', does that refer to cut fingers?
Thanks for learning how to post pictures, they sure add a lot to a post.
      Regards,
      Alan

First, what I neglected to say is that these are not all from Corvette or ,for that matter, from an automobile. Some such as the red ones are form a car and the very small siver ones are from the windshield washer hoses but I really couldn't identify most of them. Also, except for the front row, these have rounded tangs which would inducate non original or at least much later ones. I just thought it would be interesting to see the variety available.

          Jeff,
Very interesting, even though some might be found on my lawn mower. Do the stamped ones you mentioned have the U within the diamond? I am trying to date my own clamps too.

Sometimes, during restoration, we look to the repro vendors and ebay to find small parts and pay "Large" for originals, when we may get them from an old what ever machine. The vendors that supplied GM also sold to whoever. Valuable post, good insight.

            Alan:
I'm not an expert on thesae clamps but I remeber in previous post the mention of cut fingers on square edge tangs so the manufacturer rounded them. For judging, I touch the rounded edge to a grinder wheel and then put them on the hose and touch up the edge.

Every one has the "U" in the diamond. Some of these did come from the many lawn mowers and snow throwers over the years. Some I purchased at swap meets and some I just got at the hardware store. Maybe there is only 1 manufacturer of these?

                Hi Jeff,
Do 'lawn mower' and 'snow blower' parts judge pretty much the same as 'screen door hardware'?

All depends on originality and condition. It is important to save the tank sticker for you screen door!
