    65 AIM question

In section U69 sheet 10.00, that's the radio shielding section, I'm looking for

1 the part number listed for the "clip" which is attached to the front of the main ignition shield cover (the big one).
2 the latest date on that sheet, usually found on bottom in Revision Record.
3 are there any notes associated with the clip such as NPC, ECR and what are those numbers.

    Thank you

    Re: 65 AIM question

Alan -- in my '65 AIM, the sheet under option U69 is called 'A 10' and it deals with 396 distrib shield.

clip is #3869718 (item 6); two revision notes; #1 (dated 10-12-64) support 3869721 removed (because it's part of an L78 option sans radio as well). And note # 3 (dated 11-9-64) says items 6, 8 & 9 added (rivet and washer for ground clip).

The latest date on the entire sheet is for revsion notes 4 and 5, on 12-7-64.

Thanks Wayne, looking for small block clip. Just forgot about BB when I asked the question. The small block may be someplace else.

From the information I have the clips were 3824569, 3839334, 3864672, 3882701, 3904869. Trying to zero in on 3864672 which was specified in ECR 62499 dated 2-19-64.

OK; let's try this again, only small block this time . My '65 AIM (sheet A9) lists item 7 # 3864672, with NO revision note, although the number has evidently been erased and replaced previously, as the font is not as 'heavy'. The only revision on this sheet is item #1 screw asm. (top shield to driver side wire support) and is dated 2-23-65.

Are you getting your other #'s from earlier AIM's or Noland's book ?

Even simpler, are you looking for the part # of the front clip that looks like a "T"?

            OK thanks everyone.
Looking to get a date for the 3864672 which would show date valid for a Mar64 car. Since the ECR is dated 2/19/64 it could have been on a Mar64 car however its expected to be on 65 MY as has been verified by Wayne's AIM.

All these numbers come from a Restorers Article by Amgwert. Although the ECR was dated 2/19/64 it is unknown if any of those changes appeared in 64. Naturally that's what on my car. In speaking to the original and second owner (I purchased in Aug67) neither recall any replacement of shield. First owner (2yr) did all his own work, second (1yr+) only had a brake cylinder and TI Amp replaced. So is the part original?

Now to find any info showing the part used during 64 production is a long short. Not only is the clip a 65 part but the entire top shield is and expected to be seen on a 65, however all the changes are part of the ECR

What gives me a little hope and reason I have not dropped the quest is that on 3/19/64 the AIM specified a TI/FI distributor, 1111064, and since my car was built on 3/23/64 I felt it may have been the first car to use the TI/FI distributor. However people have seen and recorded these distributors back to Sept 63 - so maybe the ECR allowed my shield to be used on some production 64 cars before changes were made to AIM.

Alan -- you may be onto something. Double checked my '65 AIM SB top shield page (A9) and I see, in the lower left corner of the title block [BTW, the title block completely changed format from '64], Dwg. Date Rel 6-4; then there's L-59888 and L-60479. Don't know if that helps; probably not.

Now, about the Transistor Ignition stuff: Chevrolet Service News April '64 issue goes into great detail on servicing the "breakerless ignition system". Says that K66 was introduced in Dec of 1963 on certain hi-perf Chev engines. I have a 1100669 K66 42-amp alternator dated 3M17 (Dec 17th) and I also have the amplifier and T.I. voltage regulator, both off the same '64 Pontiac Grand Prix . Its 1116366 VR is stamped "L3", which I assume is 3rd week of November [no dates on the "005" amp box, of course]. All this to say that the T.I. systems no doubt were in development in Sept of '63, but I'd be skeptical if "064" production distributors were dated that early.
