My 1960 Corvette AC Delco fuel pump is leaking. I can see gas around the top of the pump. I have been told that formulated gas that contains alcohol is attacking the diaphram. Should I install a new service replacement fuel pump that is more resistant to the alcohol or is this pump repairable? Thanks for any help.

I believe the fuel pump repair kits for screw-type pumps of CURRENT vintage contain a diaphragm made of a material which is compatible with current fuel formulations. If your fuel pump still has the original diaphragm in it, it's long overdue for replacement, anyway. In fact, it might not even be current fuel that caused its problem---it might just be worn out.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

I agree with Joe 100%... This is an area where factory originality be darned!
Early fuel pumps used a canvass based diaphram material and they were SHORT lived! Plus, you had to be careful in following the book when doing a pump rebuild (compress the drive lever, hold it down, and THEN install the body to top retaining screws) or you'd wind up over-stressing the new/replacement diaphram and it'd rip in short order...- Top
