    Re: C1 Off Road Exhaust

    I do not think anyone is going to surface with an "off-road" exhaust option until the 1963 model year and THEN it became something over and above what WOULD BE FURNISHED AS A REGULAR PART OF THE 340/360 ENGINE PACKAGE. This package is also "UNDER THE CAR" off road.
    Forays through the C1 parts books WILL find mufflers delineated by engine option description, but NOT by "off road".

      Loren,
      Read my post above. I have original shipping document that list it on my 62. A copy was published in the "Restorer" a couple of years back.

        Was '62 441A an "option" in the sense that the customer could specifiy it or not specifiy it?

        In other words, you could order a FI engine in '62 without 441A and get oval mufflers or order 441A at no cost and get the round mufflers?

          Duke,

          I think it was Wayne Pope that raised the point about the 441-A option for off-road exhaust that was listed on his vehicle documentation for his 62 360 hp vette.

          My MSO does not list anything for off-road exhaust as an option eventhough the off-road mufflers came with the RPO 396 engine.

          The Corvette Parts Catalog published by Chevrolet lists muffler #3813534 (R/H) and #3813533 (L/H) with footnotes A, C & E. A - w/H/Per,, Sp. H/Per., F.I.; C - w/exh. pipe ext. and E - for off road service or track use only. These three footnotes apply to the aforementioned muffler numbers. These are the part numbers for the NOS off-road mufflers that I purchased many years ago.

          The Corvette Black Book lists a 441 option for the '62 as Direct Flow Exhaust System for $0.00 cost. Don't know the source of that listing.

          Other than that, I have no information on option 441.

            Re: C1 Off Road Exhaust

            I have heard a number of possibilities over the years;
            • The round, versus the oval, on pre-63's came only on mechanical lifter cars,
            • and the round came on optional engines including hydraulic lifter engines, but not the base single f4 BBL engine.
            Does anyone know the real story?
