    1970 gasoline tank replacement

A friend purchased a 1970 Corvette LS-5 coupe that was been sitting in storage for 20 years. The gasoline tank is toast. Who do you recommend for purchasing a quality replacement gasoline tank? Anything configured like the original ones?

    Thanks,

The ones from Quanta (or sold thru their agents) are as close as you're going to get.

Caveat: if you have a 70-74 that uses the fuel "separator" on the driver's side of the tank near the top, the bracket used by Quanta (as of last year) is of thinner gauge than original. Also be sure you check the threads of the chintzy nuts they weld onto the bracket. I had to do some modifying of the bracket and re-drill and tap the nuts last year to install a tank in a friend's 72. Not fun when the car is in an old dirty barn and you don't have your drill or tap set.

FYI, I did inform Quanta at Carlisle last year.

I believe that all of the tanks on the market today for Corvettes are manufactured by Spectra Industries in Canada. For Quanta, they make them with the "OLA" logo, as original, which Quanta is licensed to use. I think the only difference between the Quanta fuel tanks and others is the logo. The logo cannot even be seen when the tank is mounted in the car.

The GM tanks are all discontinued now. However, since GM's original supplier, O.L. Anderson, went bankrupt about 20 something years ago, even the GM tanks were manufactured by Spectra Industries.
