    carb problem?????

I replaced my quadra jet with the Holley replacement carb.(I know what some might think of the switch). The problem i am having is that if i let the car sit for 6 or 7 days after taking it out it seems like the carb needs to refill its self. But if it just sits for a day or 2 it is ok.Any thoughts? Thanks

Well, I don't know if this is an answer to your question:
when I don't drive my (orig. Rochester Q-Jet equipped) 77 for some time (a couple of days) the fuel bowls tend to empty (fuel just evaporates - especially when I park the car hot in the garage) just as well...

So maybe you simply do not have a problem!

Just remember to depress the gas pedal once or twice prior to starting your engine to refill the bowls...

Fuel bowls emptying is an issue for both Holley and Rochester. I don't have a solution for either of you, although Q-jets are prone to leak around the plugs in the bottom. The fuel leaks into the intake. The solution is to epoxy the plugs in place.

I never did find a solution for my Holley loosing fuel. I took to filling the primary fuel bowl through the vent tube from a plastic squeeze bottle. The lack of fuel on start up was an advantage when starting after a long storage. I cranked the starter until the oil pressure comes up. Then fill the primary bowl and she fires right up.

Same with me - I do not really consider this a problem, hardly a "nuisace".
You easily get used to the procedure of giving it a crank, then pump the bowl and here she goes...

Almost all carbureted cars have the same problem. My 63 with an Carter AFB is one of the worst, only it isn't evaporation on mine - it's percolation during hot soak after shut down.

All these problems are made more acute today due to the 10% alcohol in the gas. This isn't a concern on cars with closed (unvented) fuel delivery systems and with modern fuel injection. Big brother and the market have mandated a situation that is almost intolerable for our old Vettes. For the first time in 45 years I am thinking about getting rid of my car. The fuel vapors in my attached garage along with the potential for hydraulic lock in the engine are so bad I feel like I'm dealing with a bomb waiting for a time to go off.

I too use the long crank after shut-down routine.

on Q jets that have a return line to the tank from the fuel pump need to have a check valve fuel filter in the Q jet to prevent the fuel bowl from emptying back into the fuel line because the fuel inlet is below the needle/seat in the carb. the Q jets with the windowed needle/seat which most corvette have will almost empty the bowl. as the gas starts to evaporate from the float bowl the float drops and opens the needle/seat and the fuel runs out. the holley uses a different setup on the needle/seat which is above the fuel level.

Same issue. Normal as previously mentioned.
