    66 Brake Fluid Level

Can someone tell me what the correct brake fluid level should be in my 66 disc brake (non power) reservoir? Also, what would be an acceptable fluid available at the typical auto parts stores. Thanks, Tcheairs

    Tom -

Page 36 of your owner's manual shows to maintain the fluid level at 1/4" below the top of the reservoir.

Any DOT3 or DOT4 brake fluid will work fine, assuming that's what's in your system now; however, a previous owner MAY have changed it to DOT5 silicone fluid, and DOT3/4 and DOT5 are NOT compatible.

To determine what you have, take a sample from the reservoir and put it in a glass jar, add an equal amount of water, cap the jar, shake it up, and let it sit for a few minutes. If two distinctly separate layers form, you have DOT5 silicone fluid; if the fluid and water don't separate into layers, you have conventional DOT3/4 brake fluid.
