    Numbers question for early C3s

This might be a stupid question but is there anyway to tell from the vin on the 68-69 engine pad whether the block came from a coupe or a convertible?

I know you can tell from the body vin but something tells me that since the engine and trany vins are only partials that this "coupe/vert" info is not in the engine vin. Am I right or am I missing something?

    Hi Greg,
I wish YES, but I believe NO.

That's how it is, for sure. There's no VIN-derivative on the car that contains information regarding whether the car was a coupe or convertible.

Thanks guys. For some reason I thought that info was at least in the body VIN but I stand corrected.

The only VINs on the body are the VIN plate (seen through the windshield) and the blue certification label on the driver side door for late 1969+. Both of those contain the complete VIN which, of course, includes the coding for coupe or convertible. There are no other VINs on the body.

All of the other VIN locations on the car (i.e. engine, transmission, frame) are VIN derivatives and include no information regarding body type.
