This email came from Tom Falconer, NCRS UK Chapter Judging Chairman, about his '60 on-track in Belgium last month. Anybody want to go for a ride? Click the link to U-Tube...
Hi to my Corvette family and friends. Just found this neat video on YouTube of our 1960 Corvette Racer at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium on Saturday 27th September in the 6-Hour race. This was the climax of our year's efforts to get the car really competitive and , as you can see, the car is quick, dramatic and a real handful on the tight bends. This was apparently filmed from the in-car camera of the Emile Robyns 1964 Ginetta, so thank you to him and his team for posting it. The field ranged from Ford GT40s and Cobras to Aston Martins and lightweight E-Types, with Mustangs, Healeys , 911s, and even a Mini-Marcos, with little TVRs the quickest though the bends and E-types the eventual winners. FIA rules demand original-type brakes, so we have to make do with the fade-prone drums while virtually every other car in the race had more efficient disc brakes, allowing them to outbrake us into the bends. We ran strongly for 3 hours 20 minutes, until a rear wheel bearing failed, parking us safely in the gravel with no other damage. This is a an original East Coast vintage race car, owned and restored by Bernie Chodosh and me. The original 48 year old 4.7 litre V8 engine was rebuilt and race prepared by Gary Steffens of Denver. Our brave drivers were Bernie Chodosh, Simon Lane and John Young. John also achieved podium by co- driving the lighweight E-type which finally finished second. Special thanks to sponsor Jeff Barley who made the whole weekend possible, and everyone who has helped us to get JRG Special competitive.
