I wonder if a correct 396 fender emblem should have ivory instead of the pure white like in the nice photo. Like I said I am only familiar with the small block emblems from 63 to 65. Flags that we call the 158's. JD
John -- was digging through my parts bin and came across this pair of '63-5 side flags, # 3827158, that I'd replaced at least 25 years ago. Forgot I even had them . They have the very small "General Detroit" and part # cast on backside.

The fronts look less 'orange' than they should be for two reasons: (a) I used an orange background for the pic, and (b), someone had touched up most of the left flags (you can still see small orang(er) areas where they missed.

But note the blue in the left window of the shallow V-triangle; it looks more black than navy blue. I'm sure this hasn't been re-touched. Was this the true color ? Note also that the so-called white is more ivory (compare to background), and the black squares in the flag (of the one that's face-down and can't be seen) are glossy; whereas the ivory squares I'd call semi-flat.

Parts history says this was replaced in SERVICE by # 3872930 in Jan of 1966, so I guess that the '66 MY should use the latter.

Wayne, here's an NOS set of 3827158's. Definitely not red or maroon. Also note the cream color instead of white in the right flag.
They have only the 158 number on the back side. The orange is definitely high gloss.
