more paint questions for 56 car #10

    Hi again to all.

Does anyone have the correct formulas or codes to use in mixing acrylic lacquer in polo white, silver and venetian red for an early 56? Please give me some advice on this. I want to have some mixed but the people who advertise the acrylic colors ask for the formulas and codes. Hirsch will mix nitrocellulous but sell in 4 gallon lots. That is a bit much. I would prefer acrylic anyway for durability. Thanks in advance. Mike Anderson (317)729-2418

It would make no difference if we did. I have the old formulas for Dupont, but I dont know anyone with the mixing colors to mix it. Have you tried Auto Color Library? They should be able to mix it in PPG or Restoration Lacquer, but, it may not be the same as old. If not, the best thing to do is find an example and have it custom blended to match.

Michael, these are the PPG lacquer offset codes for '56. Gary
      - Polo White = 57758
      - Venetian Red = 59388
      - Silver (not Inca Silver) = 58599 * Dupont reformulated to base/clear only
      * Tom Ames did a spray out for the '56/7 Silver and PPG analyzed and crossed to DDL34751 Colorado Silver.

Michael, assume you know that the first 210 '56's had '55 dash pull knob layout with '57 knobs and a '55 style heater not a 56-7 fresh air heater. Gary....

          Hi Gary,

Thanks for the replies. The car is totally complete with all the early parts. I am grateful for any further help you can give me on this painting process. This will be a very nice car when finished and I just want to be sure I get the paint right.

Mike, you're one lucky fellow if the car's complete with rams horn exhaust manifolds. Do you have a record of the bolt head markings and screw types locations when you disassembled the car? Please advise. Thanks, Gary....

              Hi Gary,

As far as the fasteners on the car go, most of them were the same as what is sold by the distributors. The one fastener which was definately different than everything which is listed as correct were the bolts which hold the front crossmember to the frame. All the parts houses sell TR bolts for that application but this car had W2BC fasteners in that location and nobody sells them to fit. I would like to find some, the ones which came out of the car were mostly unusable. I saved some but have to use the new TR's until I can come up with a set of the W2BC's.
              Thanks for any help.
