    66 bb wrong motor price

negotiating with a guy on a 66 coupe factory 425 hp that has a big block in it but not the original one when he got it thirty years ago, car needs restored and he is not really up on corvettes so he believes that it really does not make a big difference on pricing in a vette if it has the original motor, what do you guys feel the difference in price would be if an original engine car is 40-50K. how much less is the car of the same type without the matching #'s thanks for the help

Tough question, too many variables. Mostly it depends on the buyer. If it's the car you have always wanted, what do you care about the original motor? Buy it and drive it. If you want a numbers matching trailer queen than wait till you find one.
The technology back in those days was nothing compared to today, hence high horsepower engines did not last long on the street in the hands of 18 year old kids. The actual number of original motor cars is pretty small compared to the number of "matching numbers" cars out there. Just my two cents

good points terry but basically I just want to know apples to apples on todays market how much a non matching # hurts the value as all know that it does not have the same value thanks!

What's the REAL cost in dollars, time, and struggle to make it a correct block/correct configuration car? Parts, shipping, machine work, time, etc., etc? Deduct that from what you think the car would be worth if it was correct and original. That's a good bargaining position. If the owner is sharp, he'll come back with the fact that now you would have a fresh motor that is cosmetically done as well, where if you had an original-motor car, it wouldn't be fresh mechanically or cosmetically. Where the two of you can meet in the middle (or where you think you need to be, because it will only be correct, not original) tells you how much less it is worth to you than with the original motor.
