    1108429 starter question

While comparing the wiring setup for the starter while studying my 1970 Corvette Assembly Manual there appears to be a contradiction as to which post the red wire and the yellow wire go to. In UPC 12, Sheet A8 it shows the yellow wire attaching to the left or S post and the red wire attaching to right or R post, the battery post being in the center. In the Wiring Diagram-Engine Compartment it shows the opposite. Facing the solenoid what color wires go where on the two posts? The 20G yellow wire shows to be attached to the positive side of the ignition coil and to the right or R post in one diagram but not the other diagram.

    Thanks,

I know of no "red" wire that attaches to either the "R" or "S" terminals on the starter solenoid. The "R" terminal has a 20 gauge YELLOW wire attached which terminates on the other end at the positive (+) terminal of the coil. To the "S" terminal is attached a PURPLE wire. This wire ultimately terminates at the ignition switch.

Thanks, Joe. I guess age changes purple wires to a red hue under the car with a drop light but all the wires appear to be connected properly. I did discover the 14G ground wire attached to the battery post and I removed it and bolted it where it's supposed to be but there's still a problem of it not starting after it has been running a while. The starter will make one click each time I turn the ignition key. After it cools it will start again. I have a heat shield on it.
