    Tire Storage

When I store a vehicle I maintain full spec tire pressure.

What about storage of rim-mounted tires that are not on a vehicle? It would seem to me that it might make sence to reduce the tire pressure in this case.

    Any comments?

    Re: Tire Storage

I am by far, no expert on tires, but I would feel that pressure on a tire that is not on a car is not that critical. What would be critical is the storage area as far as temps and moisture, etc. Deterioration would be of more concern than flat spots on a car mounted tire.

      HUGH-

I agree with Tom. As long as you keep some sort of pressure in those stored tires as not to form "flat" spots you should be OK. With no vehicle weight on them there really should be no issue. Will they be stored in a climate controled area?

        Thanks,

Marty - Stored in an insulated and finished attached (to house) garage. Climate is moderated somewhat by it being insulated and drywalled - but wouldn't qualify as 'climate controlled'.

I store mounted tires at normal pressure for the vehicle and try to remember to check adjust air pressure once a year.

            Re: Tire Storage

Store tires in a cool, dark place that has no ozone producing objects. Electric motors are ozone generators. Normal inflation pressures are fine for tires not on a vehicle.
There are several information resources on the internet about long-term tire storage. Seek and yee shall find.
