My 67 has the original sidepipes and covers, and the covers are still in very good condition. However, there are some minor scratches, the polished aluminum 'strips' are a little dull in places, etc. Who restores these, or can any competent metal polisher do it? Are the duller stripes painted, or are they just unpolished? If they're painted, what is the correct paint? High-heat, I assume? Thanks.

I believe they were extruded, polished, then clear-anodized. Before you do anything you have to get the anodizing off, then get them anodized again after you're done. Maybe someone else knows a source for this.- Top

Re: C2 sidepipe cover restoration
Larry,
I have a 1966 with side exhaust. My car was stored out side for thirdy years about 20 miles from the beach under a car port cover and then a car cover over the car before I purchased it. My side exhaust had some pitting, some small and some larger spots. I took the covers to a plating shop where they removed the clear anodizing and then polished the covers. I got the covers back and the recessed areas still showed some pitting. I taped off the higher ridge and then used a fine materail and sand blasted the lower sections. I accomplshed two things. One I got reid of the pitted area with out removing to much material and second I obtain the look which im my opinion looked some like and argent silver. My next step is to have the covers clear anodizined and the buffed area should have a reduction in gloss which should give the cover an original look. Hope this helps- Top
