57 Trailer Queen - Taking for a Spin

Okay, the title is a bit deceptive. But the 57 does go on a trailer to events....

Hooked on Driving staged an all Corvette day at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows CA. Mostly C5s and C6s, which are incredibly fast cars on a track. I had a chance to pass a C5 on the morning Parade Lap, but I let the chance pass by. I had 2 hours of track time on the day, and my arms are just dead today.

I am amazed at how well #43 brakes. The car has a big brake setup - with original finned drums on the front. The pads are not the original metallic type, but replacements made by Raybestos I believe. The brakes quickly slow the car without any pulling or fade. I can see why Corvettes dominated road racing from 57 to 62.

And #43 has an original 57 #548 block in it, although I have not checked the casting date on it...

Go ahead and pass that C-5. He'd never expect it and by the time he'd react it would be adios amego.

These dudes with the newer Vettes are so sure of themselves that they are shocked and surprised that you'd have the guts to risk mixing wheels with them. The element of surprise gives you the advantage jump, then you back off and let them go and you savor the moment.

Beautiful car, and I'll bet it's loads of fun.
