In the 1957 Corvette, did Chevrolet ever install the special high lift camshaft in the block 3731548,283ci,270hp,2x4 engine?

You state 1956 in your post title but 1957 in the text of your post. I'll assume you're talking about 1957 since the 3831548 block is a 1957 block and the 270 hp engine was first used for 1957. So, the answer to your question is yes. Chevrolet DEFINITELY used a special high lift camshaft for the 270 hp, 2X4 engine. It was the first use of the famous "Duntov" cam known as GM #3736097.

One interesting tidbit on the early camshafts is that the "High lift" cam actually has the same or lower lift (with clearance adjusted on the solid lifters) then the standard cam. What it really had was increased duration and more overlap.
