Hello all,
without going into any details, my 64 Daytona Blue coupe (original paint???) needs to be painted due to damage from vandalism. I have no knowledge of paint and body do and don'ts. Also, I am completely in the dark when it comes to finding a local reputable shop to do the work; I don't want just any shop with a compressor and a paint booth to perform the work. I live in Bel Air, MD 21014. I am located approximately 20 miles NorthEast of Baltimore, MD. If no one can recommend a shop, i would be grateful for any advice concerning what to look for and what questions to ask when I do interview shops.
Since the car needs paint, I would appreciate any advice on what additional items should be addressed during this process. You know, the type of things one might do because it makes sense to do while a Corvette is going through the painting process.
The insurance company has asked me to provide several estimates. They have already had their independent appraiser inspect the car and his estimate was $4,000+ to paint the car. I think that is a low figure. Also, I do know that i can disagree with and pursue consideration for more $ being applied to the paint and body work. However, if at the end of the day, all the shop estimates are greater than what the insurance will pay for, I am prepared to pay the difference, although reluctantly, because I do not intend to ever paint this car again.
Thank you
