Spare Tire for 1971--Need an expert

I am looking at a tire for my spare (1971) for judging. I need someone who would be willing to look at pictures of the tire and tell me if it is original and will pass NCRS judging. If you would be wllling to do that email me and I will send you pictures. Thanks Paul

If you post here, please post pictures of the DOT code. That will tell all.

Check out the archives of my post '71 GoodYear Tire, of what I believe to be an original, I am not an expert. This tire has a paint dot on the front, a small (1/4" X 1/2") paper like tag on the back and a yellow number "1" also on the back. You can see the DOT numbers branded into the tire. I can, post more pictures of every detail if you wish.

            Paul,

The backside shows the "paper" tag that I mentioned. We used to pull them off, why I don't remember. I have been told to pay attention to the
flying boot between Good and Year, that the repos are not the same.?

              Paul:
Photos are a big help on this website. Thanks for posting your original spare. I have the exact same concerns that Paul Cook has.
As I understand it, 1971 came only with five F70x15 tires on 8" rims. Also, the rims were painted "Bright silver" and not the greenish silver that 1970's had. Am I correct? Reason I ask is that I was told at a recent judged event that my 71 rims needed to be greener.
              Thanks Tom

Tom these are photos of another members Bowtie car at Park City National a few years ago. I owned a 71 LT-1 from 1974 till last year it was an early car 1914 had green tint to the rims so if your car is early I would say below 3000 s/n could be green later silver. I'm helping one of our chapter members resto his 71 about 5300 all wheels were silver and the rims were never redone till the start of the resto. Paul 18046

I would post the pictures here but I haven't been able to figure out how to do it. I can email them to you--send me you email address--or--of course someone can tell me how to post pictures or direct me to a site--I hope this doesn't use photobucket--that seems like a long process. Maybe I am just slow

                    Here's a How-to on Posting Pics:

                    3) Scroll down the page & click on the "Manage Attachments" box
                    4) A small window pops-up
                    5) The 1st box is labelled "Upload file from your computer", Click on the "Browse" box next to it.

                    11) Bask in the glory of a job well done & knowing that you've helped your fellow Vette Fanatics get through another issue.
                    12) If your file size is too big, then you'll have to reduce the photo size prior to uploading by using Windows Picure Manager or Photoshop, etc.
                    Hope this helps.

Note 8-digit DOT code documents this tire was produced between 1/1/68 and early 1971 when tire manufacturers used their own proprietary DOT coding sequences. If memory serves, the current DOT standardized 11 or 12-digit sequences (12-digit for tires produced after 1/1/2000) went into effect in 1Q, 1971...
