Can anyone tell me if the 1966 brake caliper casting numbers differ from 1965 calipers? I have a copy of the 1966 judging guide/manual and made note of the numbers in the manual. I also read a posting for a 1965 brake question and the casting numbers the NCRS member wrote were different then the numbers for 1966.

The 1965 through early 1967 caliper casting numbers are the same. All begin with "546". There are no other caliper castings used on Corvettes that begin with this series of numbers. L1967 through 1972 begin with "546" and 73-82 begin with "547".In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1966 brake caliper casting numbers
Joe,the 1966 manual claims the front right and left outer calipers 5473796 and right and left inner calipers 5473795. The rear calipers halfs all show different numbers. starting with 547 and 546 do you agree?- Top

Re: 1966 brake caliper casting numbers
NO calipers with casting numbers beginning with the series "547" were EVER originally used on ANY 65-E67 Corvette. Even if these are found with internal piston guides (as used for all 65-E67 calipers), these are later SERVICE 1st design calipers, not originals. The vast majority of the time, one will find that the "547" (or, "545") calipers will lack internal piston guides (or, any evidence of them being originally there but machined out to convert to 2nd design). That's another point of evidence that they were NEVER originally used on a 1965-E67 since all of these had internal piston guides cast into the caliper bores.
The "547" calipers are VERY common since there were far more of these manufactured for both PRODUCTION and SERVICE than were ever manufactured of the "546" or "545" series. So, there are a lot more of them "out there" used as cores and often finding there way onto 1965-72 Corvettes through that "route".In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

'66 brake caliper casting numbers; 4th ed of TIM&JG wrong
Michael,
If you're going by the casting numbers listed in the latest (4th) edition of the TIM&JG, those numbers are incorrect. The 3rd edition has the correct numbers. Someone the 4th edition got them wrong.
