I should have mentioned it in my first post but I assumed that you would have pulley alignment problems if you were to displace the position of the pulley relative to the hub. However, you can also use the type of shims in the photo attached to space the pulley further out. I would never use washers, but these shims are designed for the job. This is a Moroso kit which contains two 1/16" shims and one 1/8" shim. It's very inexpensive.
In case any others are thinking along these lines, you CANNOT use the GM reinforcement/spacer GM #3720616. This piece is designed only for 1955-70 Corvette applications; it will not work for the 71-82 style Corvette waterpumps, big block or small block.
