    sticky valves

Finally put the fuel pump on the car and got it running, so I moved onto the three cylinders that had the bent/broken push rods. I bought a couple to put in from NAPA and with the valve covers off I replaced them one at a time. The first one was fine and was running just fine, so I put the second push rod in and started the car again, I noticed the rocker arm was not moving but and oil was coming out of the hole. I removed the rod and it was bent, the valve is really stiff. Whether I should have or not, I took a hammer and tapped it down, once at a certain spot it came back up very slowly. I left the push rod and rocker arm off that one and tried the third valve, prior to putting the rocker arm and rod in it, I gave it a tap with the hammer, it too was tight then it loosened up considerably and is now free.
So my question is, what can I do besides taking the head off to loosen the one valve? Also, anyone in Denver Colorado that is a do it your self kind of person?

if it is a exhaust valve it is most likely rust. run that piston to TDC so you don't drop the valve and remove the spring and spray the the stem area with PB blaster.

The valve is on the intake side. Can you remove the valve without removing the Head?

Myth or fact that it helps, I do not kow, but many years ago in the 60's I knew a person that used 4 quarts of oil and one quart of transmission fluid when the oil was changed in his 63 Chev 283 PG sedan. Said it kept his engine cleaner and would brag about the color of his tailpipe showing a clean burn.

Remove the rocker arm, soak the affected valve with PB Blaster, as Clem said, do this for two-three days. Take a brass hammer and start tapping the top of the valve stem. It should eventually break loose. Be patient. It might not work the first time.

All, thanks for all the advice, the valve is now unstuck. The car is running on all eight cylinders and doing well. I have another thread that I will start with another question. Please keep the good advice flowing.
