    Instrument Cluster Connections

I removed my instrument cluster today on my 65 to have it restored. When taking it apart, the turn signal harness wires were straped to the steering column with zip ties. I would suspect that zip ties were not used back in 65. Was the wire harness attached to the column? If so, could someone let me know the proper way?

Also when I removed the ammeter connector, I did not see how the capacitor was connected. How does the V shaped connector from the capacitor attach to the connection into the back of the ammeter?

    Thanks in advance.

    James,

The turn signal wires may go inside the column but someone with a 65 will know for sure. The V shaped brass end from the capaciator slips inside the plug that goes to the amp guage.

The steering column harness exits the column and joins to the dash harness via an in-line connector. That connector has a 'slot' in it that accepts a metal clip. The clip then snaps into a hole in the upper side of the steering column to hold the wiring harness up and out of the way.

Your copy of the AIM ought to provide a rough drawing of the final installation.

I suspect prior owner(s) broke the clip during disassembly. Hopefully, they didn't break the 'slot' in the harness connector that the clip slides into!
