The AIM shows the MY started with basic frame 3864676 and changed to 3869753 roughly at the model year change over point (7-24-64). Then, there was a running change from 3869753 to the final '65 frame (3871317) authorized on 9/1/64.....
Agree with Jack; my # 0148x has the front X-member with BOTH indentations (for the BB pulley/balancer, and the fan blade clearance [offset to the passenger side]). Original frame with VIN derivative stamping(s). I figure this frame was probably at St.Louis before the strike began (late Sept '64), because the S-body tag is D6 (Nov 6th) which must have been the first day of production after the strike ended at St.Louis.

That's EXCELLENT confirmation of what I could only speculate on!

The factory couldn't run 'blind' to what was happening up in Detroit/Engineering. It just wouldn't make economic sense NOT to give the assembly tooling and purchasing folks an adequate 'heads up' on running changes to thwart potential obsolescence/scrap, inventory sorting and production scheduling nightmares...

Mike if you mean How I made the ''Fix''

i cut out the piece , made bends in the cut out piece , grind down the frame for the indent and welded the bend piece back in

No WAY! Doesn't your uncle Ed's ship hit port next week? You should find a NICE un-tweaked '65 frame there to measure to your heart's content...
Uncle Jack should check the start date of this thread

btw the 65 should arrive at the port Monday august 2e

          Sander,
