6 volt wire harness's

Is it true that the old wire in harness's was bigger gauge for less loss of power to accessories than the wire in new harness's, have heard they could keep end of run stuff like horns from working? Also where to get a steel vac hose to carb for 58 230 car. Thanks Brad.

I think we need to keep the terminology straight. Old vs New is irrevelent, what is true is that for an equal amount of power (watts) delivered to a functional part, be it a fan motor, or a starter or a radio, the amperage delivered by the wire in a six-volt system is exactly double what it is in a 12 volt system. Thus six volt systems used larger gauge size wiring to reduce the system resistance and thus reduce the voltage drop and also the temperature rise associated with the higher amperage current. This is easy to see in starting circuits, where 6 volt systems tend to use "O" gauge wire for the battery cables and 12 volt systems tended to use 4 gauge, sometimes 6 gauge for starting.
