Nice '67 Trim Rings but "Clip Ring" Rust?

Hello - My '67 has what appear to be its original set of trim rings.

Two are essentially perfect, and the other two have only minor imperfections. The weakest aspect is that the clip retaining rings on the backsides all show significant rust.....heavy, flakey rust.

The clips are all sound and except for the rust, the clip rings are basically sound. Naturally, I hope to preserve these trim rings, and want to arrest the rust.

Has anyone successfully attacked this problem? Ospho? POR-15? Other products??

I'm not a chemist, and am concerned about the potential for galvanic action between the stainless steel trim ring and the iron phosphate that Ospho converts the rust into. Anyone know for sure? (I just called Ospho's tech support and did not reach a source of any real knowledge about the potential for galvanic action.)

Thanks in advance for any input.

    Regards,
    Bob S.

Bob Look in the "Driveline", you will find an ad for a member that restores the trim rings. He even states that if the clips are in the wrong location he can move them to the correct position for judging. I would assume that if he can move the clips that he can that remove them. I would have him either replace or restore the clips. I see no way that one could chemically or sandblast and then put a finish back on the clips without running the risk of damaging the trim ring itselfs. Also the guy does put up actions on "Ebay". He goes under athe "Ebay" of "georickparts" Good Luck in your trim ring restoration.
