    C1 gas pedal falls off

Been having this problem with my '58 for awhile. The rubber gas pedal doesn't want to stay tight on the two studs on the floor that hold it in place. Some of my problem is my foot catches the underside of the rubber when moving from the brake to the gas and pulls it off, but is there another way to keep it on tighter? Although it doesn't seem like much of a problem, try entering the highway from the on ramp with the rubber pedal laying on its side and you desperately trying to find the end of the accelerator rod so you don't get rear ended! Maybe it's the holes in the pedal that don't accept the studs tightly, but I can't tell for sure. And, yes, it is a repro rubber pedal. Thanks in advance.

Change the studs that the pedal is snapped on to. I have had this problem as well, and that is a good place to start. If that doesn't do it, get a new pedal. The best ones as always are the original ones. Just my experience.

Find a good used original pedal, one where the two lower stud mounting holes are not elongated or distorted. Also make sure the white plastic insert doesn't have a groove worn in it. I've never had much luck with repo pedals on my cars, it seems they used a softer rubber compound.
By the way, Dale's gas pedal fix was to drill a small hole at the edge of each of the mounting holes and put a cotter pin in. Squeeze the O.D. of the mounting hole with a pair of needle nose pliers and tighten the cotter pin. This reduced the size of the hole some what and tightened it up. I've never tried it but Dale swore by it. Good luck! Rich

Thanks to all for the help. I did take Jerry's advice, bought a Vette Products pedal and it really snaps in. My Paragon pedal had the holes on the back side, but they were wider toward the top of the hole so only 1/2 of the holes depth kept the pedal on the studs. Vette Products pedal has two holes which are twice as deep as Paragons and it really snaps in and holds great. I can see why you've had the same one for 7 years.

            Hopefully problem solved.

              Steve,

The best way to keep it from falling off is to keep it planted to the floor with your right foot. It was designed to be like that.
