    1971 Corvette LS6 Guru's

Can anyone comment on this white convertible 71 LS6 Corvette. It seems like a good buy but then the engine pad looks funny to me. Swirl marks. I talked to the owner and he says it is all original. Real or restamped? I have a 71 LS5 coupe under restoration for the last 15 years and the engine pad has the vertical brooch marks.

Second question is there was another LS6 Coupe on ebay but didn't have any bids at all. Engine was out due to it being blown. Wrong paint etc. Does anyone know about this car.

Thanks for your comments..LS6 Guru's or any body that knows of these cars.

Run, don't walk, in the opposite direction.

I'm no guru but,Wimbledon(sp) white? I'm familiar with Classic white in 71.
Stamp pad? Trans numbers? Vin plate? Alarm key location?

The block's deck has been lightly surfaced with a rotary broach. However, the numbers are not necessarily a re-stamp. They look ok to me and appear like they are "shallower" than normal. The latter is exactly what one would expect for a deck that's been surface-milled.

The engine data plate on the console trim plate looks suspiciously "newer" than the surrounding. Very subtle, though; it could be original.

The AIR pump is definitely NOT original. This is a 76+ configuration pump.

          Grant,

Bottom post of car is a real one. Documented with GM paperwork. There are some originality issues with the white car(originally War Bonnet yellow). Several original mechanical pieces are missing. I do know the history on this one.

First car posted I have not seen before. Several interesting items have been changed, that are unique to a real car. I will have to check into this one further. The seller is mistaken on their only being a "tiny handful" of convertibles. Currently we have 104 LS6's on the Corvette registry/survey. 54 of them being convertible models.

            Hi Joe,
Your comment about the data plate made me look at my 71, 350/270.
The font and line weight used on the plate in the picture is close but definitely different from my original plate. I would think they'd be the same.
            Regards,
            Alan
