    Correct Frame Stencil Numbers

I just got my 56 frame painted (it looks gorgeous, by the way!) and am looking at re-doing the frame stencil. I noticed some discrepancies in a couple of documents and numbers on other cars stencils and needed to ask questions.

    Basically, I have three questions:

    1. For the part number on the stencil of 303190-32, I've read where the last two numbers signify the level of revisions. If so, would my late 56 (Sept. 7th car) use the #32 more appropriately than say the #30 or #31 that I see as options? Does it matter one way or the other which revision number I use?

    2. I saw a 57 that used a 303191-41 number but that number isn't correct in the JG. Are there more numbers that are correct than what the judging guide uses? Just curious more than anything.

    3. Date. I'm trying to figure out what date is appropriate to put on my stencil. I would have thought that a July stencil date for my September car would be appropriate, but I saw a documented 57 that had a stencil date of July 12th 1956...and their VIN is 162 and mine is 4399, or 67 cars before the end of the run of 56s. With only 229 cars difference, should I push my date back to June or could I still keep a July date?

As always, thanks for any and all help!

    Re: Correct Frame Stencil Numbers

Mark, since you have a very late car the last number 303190-32 would be applicable for your frame number. My '57 VIN 300X original frame stencil is 303190-42 dated 2.11.57 Calculated build date is last week of March '57. That's a 46 day interval. The JM has the correct '56 & '57 frame stencil numbers. When I ordered my stencil they sent one for 303190-43 Hopefully, some of the '56 guys will provide some frame stencil info. Gary....

Mark: My 56 was built August 2 and my number is 303190-31 with a June 11, 1956 date. VIN #3787. I felt the same way when I finished painting my frame also. It seemed like I was wiping it down every other day. Man they get dusty fast.

        Re: Correct Frame Stencil Numbers

Thanks for the responses, gents. Based on what you two have said, I think I may go for a July date. Probably early to mid-July. That gives me about 50 days or so to work with. I also think I'll stick with the 303190-32. If my car's not late enough for that number, I don't know what is.

As far as the dusty frame, Jerry....Just like a black car, 10 minutes after you wash it, you'd better start dusting. Hey, I found another use for the car duster! Never thought I'd use it on a frame. I'd better give it up for now, because I've got way too long before I'm ready to reunite the body and frame again. Should be a fun assembly on the chassis for now. Can't wait.

Thanks again for all the help. Very much appreciated.
