    71 exhaust tips

When I purchased my 71 it had one exhaust fairly new and the other possibly the original (low mileage car). The new side had a stainless steel tip at the end and the other I suspect is an original. The SS tip is rather "cheesy" compared to the "beefier" chromed unit I beleive to be original. Many of the distributors advertise the SS tips but some advertise a chromed tip. Is this chromed unit the "beefier" type that is closer to the originals. Catalog pictures don't show much and I'd rather ask you guys than take the word of someone pushing the product. Always grateful for the assistance you guys provide. Thanks, Mike.

That chromed tip is the same as the light metal SS tip only chromed.

      Thanks Lyle,
I was afraid that would be the case. The rear view of the Shark being my favorite, I hate looking at that "tinny" reproduction unit. Thanks for the clarification. Mike

        Michael,

You're not alone in your thoughts. I feel the same way. There are a lot of '70 to '72 cars running around with the stainless steel reproduction tips.

Mike the original tip has a welded seam on the bottom. If you have the car judged they will ding you for it. I think you can get "originals" from Paragon Repoductions, but they are expensive.
