67 B.B. Power Steering Pump Bracket

    Good morning to all!

I have a problem with the pulley from my power steering pump on a 67 B.B. The pulley does not line up with the other pulleys. It is slightly cocked off center. I suspect the problem is an inaccurate reproduction stamping of the power steering pump bracket. If I wedge accurately between the bracket and the block, the misallignment reduces somewhat but still isn't great.

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks, Ben (Member #20305)

Ben, Its Hard To Say What The Problem Is, Bent Bracket, Spacer Missing Etc. Do You Have The Capabiles To Take A Picture ,maybe It Would Help.

Edward, the engine was recently disassembled and is being reassembled in about 2 weeks. At the power steering pump bracket pacement I will forward you a photo.

      Thanks, Ben.

As stated, pulley/belt mis-alignment problems are hard to diagnose by 'guessing' (not seeing the actual engine configuration). But, maybe 75% of the time, the root cause turns out to be pulleys that have been replaced with 'generics' by prior owners.

I'd start by taking an inventory of what pulleys are actually in use (most all factory originals have a PN embossed either on the front or back) and comparing those numbers to what's called out in the AIM book for your car...

Ben, I compared the original power steering pump bracket on my 43,000 mile BB '67, to a NOS GM service replacement part, and a GM approved restoration reproduction bracket. Laid them all side by side from every possible position.
The original and the NOS bracket were 100% identical.
The reproduction was 99% identical, with only very slight tooling marks separating it from original. The configuration layout was flawlessly identical.
I would look at pulleys, as others have indicated. Ridge.

I believe that the original brackets and reproductions are manufactured from the original tooling. So, for all intents-and-purposes, the originals and reproductions are the same. Of course, tooling does wear over time and variations can thus occur (even with original GM pieces because tooling wear starts from when the first piece is produced). I have not noted any significant difference in "originals" versus "reproductions", either.
