Rode in lots of those suckers, but then that was in Saigon, SVN. They all rode like they had no suspension. Perhaps they were just worn out and had fenders repaired with old Bud cans.

When you are 15, poor, and wanting your first car, anything that runs looks GOOD! It was my very first of many cars, and I guess it started "Corvette Fever" somehow?? I fondly remember driving it on my folk one acre and running ove one of Mom's trees!!Harry Ledgerwood

That makes sense. I assume you were not a Renault 4CV enthusiast.
According to the web, which is always 100% reliable, Renault sold more than 1M Renault 4CV's. Which no doubt explains why Stuart was lucky enough to ride in them in South Vietnam during his youth.

The Taxi drivers in Saigon were a tempermental bunch, perhaps due to the're being bounced around all day. They all carried a fairly heavy length of chain with them in the front seat. If you had any disagreement with them on price, out came the chain and they'd start swinging it and swearing at you like crazy. You usually paid up and left ASAP. They wouldn't dare carry a knife or gun, needless to say, so the chain was found to be very effective - specially after curfew.

Do not remember being able to order anything that looked as good as those young ladies in the S&H Green Stamp Catalog
I do remember my Mother leaving it up to me to put the stamps in their books so she could redeem them, I did learn to make a big enough mess so I would not have to do it anymore.Comment

I seem to recall their big warehouse was right near the interchange of I-294 and the Ike. We'd always see it on the way into Chicago or heading north to the dairy state.

'used to give Top Value stamps at the Mobil station I worked at. The Marathon across the street gave S&H. I got my first living room furniture from the S&H store in Ft. Wayne, Indiana---a wicker couch, chair, green corduroy pads, two wicker end tables and two lamps with wicker shades.
'Too bad they didn't have Corvette parts!

In the NJ area the only real alternative to SH Stamps was Plaid Stamps which were orange & black plaid in color. SH Green stamps outsold Plaid stamps most likely 8 to 1.
