    '66 door wedge shims

Did the factory ever use shims on either the small door alignment wedge and the one on the door jamb? It looks like it would be the same size as the deck lid wedge which does use one.

    Thanks,

Interesting question... I immediately grabed my copy of the '65 and '67 AIM (don't have a '66) and couldn't find the wedge components called out for the door.

You're right that these are the same components used for convertible deck lids and there ARE spacer(s) called out there.

I can tell you that I grab original wedges from passenger cars that used the same part because the construction of the reproduction parts differs slightly from factory originals. When I remove original wedges from the doors of passenger cars, I DO find a variable number of spacer/shims installed behind them...

      Thanks Jack,

I didn't see it in the AIM either but it seemed like it would make sense if they were needed. Maybe someone with an original car has seen them used.

The door wedges on convertibles were intended to improve body beaming stiffness and to reduce rattles by solidly grounding the door structure to the door opening, but I don't think the plant paid much attention to whether or not both wedges were actually in contact.
