    C1 Tach Cable

HAVE 57, THERE IS A NOISE COMING FORM THE TACH ON THE DASH, MY QUESTION IS HOW EASY IS IT TO REMOVE THE DRIVE CABLE FROM ITS SHEATH AND LUBRICATE IT, WHAT KIND OF GREASE IS BEST,
AND MOST IMPORTANT DOES THE DRIVE CABLE COME OUT EASILY AND HOW IS IT PUT BACK IN THE SHEATH
IF THE NOISE ISN'T DOESN'T CEASE AFTER THIS PROCESS WOULD MY NEXT STEP BE TO HAVE THE TACH ITSELF SENT OF FOR REBUILDING WHO DOES THAT
    THANKS

Curious, will the grease work itself up the cable and into the tach head and ruin it? I had heard on some guages and style of manufacture, that is can happen. Don't know if it is fact, it is just what I heard.

I can't remember if you can pull it out from the Tach end. But, if it were me, I would sparingly lube the first 1/4 of the way from the distributor or gen. end. I have seen Tach's with a oil/lube stain around the needle and I was told that is what happens when the lube climbs up the cable and gets into the Tach. I also heard, it can kind of gum up the works. I would say some lube is ok, but too much of a good thing is a bad thing.

                my tach cable, original?,
has a little washer that will slid
                from one end to another.
does one insert it from the tach end
so this washer is up by the tach?
