    Judging Questions

I'm new to NCRS and intend to have my Vette judged for the 1st time next month at the Waco, TX Regional Meet. In reviewing the '67 Judging Guide I want to get clarification on 2 items:

    1. Front Bumper (Section-Body 13) - "this brace is secured to the cross member by 2 hex-head... bolts (HEAD ORIENTATION UP)". What does HEAD ORIENTATION UP mean - head on top of brace & bolt on bottom?

    2. Battery - Original Delco Energizer R59, no longer available from Delco. Delco has a replacement. My question is will a new Delco replacement get partial deducution for oringinality / quality.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Re: Judging Questions

    Ron,

When bolts can be installed two ways, someone will always put them in the opposite way from factory. Your guess is correct.

A modern Delco replacement gets a 50% point deduction for originality and zero for condition (assuming it's new). The repro battery probably will get from 10-30% deduction in originality points depending on how close it is and, again, no deduction on condition if it's new. You can get nice sealed modern type repro battery and you might want to go this route if you're serious about judging.

But, most importantly, if this your first time, remember that this is a hobby, we're all in this for fun and to learn about neat cars, and that the sun will still rise tomorrow regardless of point deductions!

    See you in Waco!

    Bob

      Ron,

In addition to the excellent comments by Bob, I'd recommend you volunteer to be an Observer Judge on Friday for '67 big blocks. (I am guessing from the picture in your profile that you have a small block car.) This will be very helpful in understanding the judging process and how judges interpret the guidelines. Even if you have no intention of ever actually doing any judging, having an OJ experience will be useful as an owner.

Thanks Bob, now I'll need to switch them and decide on the battery.

          See you in Waco.
