Shifter Modification Needed

A 4sp shifter I bought on EBAY looks identical to the one in the picture except there is no hook for the anti rattle spring.

Does anyone know how they likely attached this hook into the shifter ?

I am planning to fabricate one using some steel welding rod.

Should I try a few thousand of an inch interference fit with some heat on the shifter along with some Loctite ?

Or should I solder or braze it ?

I think that shifter arm section is made of pot metal. I'd be very careful applying heat. A drilled hole with a tight fitting rod section and some Locktite or JB Weld may be the best thing to try first. Or maybe drill and tap for a small screw (6/32") and some Loctite. The screw head will also act to retain the spring end.

Mike - thanks for the advice. I will probably try the 6/32 machine screw route. That seems more reliable than an interference fit.
