    Owners pin variations?

I just learned that there is a "early vs late" issue with the original Corvette Owners Pins.

Can anyone elaborate on this and explain the differences?

Any other issues about variations would also be appreciated.

Ed there was a good discussion in July or August on owners pins.

Yes, I am aware of the August discussion. It did not go into detail on the differences. That's what I am wondering about.

          Re: Owners pin variations?

Ed, recently I've come across a '57 original owner who doesn't have the car anymore, but saved the pin. The pin backing has the GBM inscription. The GBM inscription was confirmed on another '57 owner's pin that came with several letters etc when it was bought from the estate. Am waiting on a fellow NCRS member who has original owner's kit with pins from 59-62 to let me know what their back inscriptions are. My believe is the GBM inscribed pins are C1's and the MI/5 are C2's. Have spoken with a both 64 & 65 original owners who have their pins and they're inscribed MI/5. Not to muddy the water, but was told there was a 3rd back inscription. Am still trying to explore that, but so far no joy. Hopefully, some Member has more info on the owner's pins back inscriptions that what I've put together so far. Good luck, Gary....

Loren, that's for the info on your '63 owner's pin. Do you have both pin's boxes? If so, it would be great if you could post what inscriptions or stampings and marks they have on them. Photos or color descriptions would be welcomed also. Thanks, Gary....

                    Re: Owners pin variations?

So it is beginning to sound like there are two variations:

Early version: GBM - possibly 56 to 62.
                    Late version: MI/5 - possibly 63 to 66

                    Does that sound right?

I purchased 62 VIN# 5188 from the original owner. Original pin has MI/5 on the back.

                            Lou,

Do you know how long after the original owner took delivery of the car he sent in his card to get the owner's pin.

I could see a possibility of the owner not sending in the card until early 63. That would possibly explain a 62 car with a "63 and up" pin.

                            Just a thought.
