Eaton gas cap judging 58-60. stamp or no stamp?

Would an Eaton gas cap for a 58-60 be considered correct whether it has the Eaton stamp on it or not? So assuming it is a non-vented cap, and matches the schematic -- does it matter if it has the Eaton stamp? The Restorer CD has an article with an Eaton cap pictured, and it has the stamp, but I understand there were Eaton caps with and without the stamp. In another thread, someone mentioned they have never seen an Eaton cap without a stamp. So is the pictured cap not actually an Eaton cap?

    Thanks for your advice.

I don't want to ruin it by lifting the handle, and its tight aginst the cap so I can't make out if there's a stamp under there. I think I'd see a tiny portion of it, if it were there. Maybe it's a really early cap before they started using the stamp at all? Was there ever a repop of this cap? Would it pass judging? I cannot see any evidence of a vent valve on it, so pretty sure it is non-vented.

I bought the cap from a gent on eBay and am debating whether I should return it to him. He swears up and down that it is correct and Eaton made caps with no stamp.

        Ian,

I don't think that these caps were ever reproduced because they weren't all that hard to find till recently. Someone is reproducing the Standt one now though. If the cap fits, I wouldn't have a problem with it. I'd guess you'd lose maybe a point from some judges regarding the logo, but maybe wait until you get another judge to comment.

I'm also interested to hear from those who may know if Eaton made caps with one or no logo.

        Bob
