Re: 62 water pump
The pump was installed on the engine and got painted when the engine was painted. I've read that the back of the pump, the underside of the engine mounting "yoke", and the front of the timing cover perhaps received uneven coverage. But all the ones I've seen had plenty of paint on them. I'll bet everybody paints them separately.
The 4 attaching bolts were installed and painted. This includes the lower right stud for the generator adjusting brace. The generator adjusting brace was not installed, and is painted black. The curved heater hose nipple was installed and painted. The top 90 degree nipple was not installed and therefore didn't get any paint. It is bare steel.
Mask off the ends where the radiator hoses attach. Leave an inch or so. Some people think that paint there and coolant makes that area slippery so that the hoses might slip off. Not me. In fact, I always put a slight coating of grease on the ends of hoses so that I can get them off later. May not be a good practice for you. But it is for me. I always have to do a job more than once. So, I usually need to take the hoses off for something after I install them.- Top
